Slides for Internal Features

amc.gif (6172 bytes)

Complex internal features in a die casting are commonly produced by movable metal slides/cores precisely positioned in the die cavity.

In the closed position, the movable slides are positioned to form the internal cavities (open and closed) and keyway and rib features.

After the metal solidifies in the die, the slides are retracted, freeing the casting for easy removal.

In the elbow housing, the complex internal core features (ribs, keys, and keyways) and the three access holes are formed by the three movable slides.

The movable slides are precisely machined and finished to produce features with the required tolerances and minimal flash. (This reduces machining requirements and costs for the finished component.)
